Olympic FEVAAAA!

hello sports fans! or hello people who would not be caught dead watching sports until all of a sudden olympic fevaaaaa hits! olympic fever. everyone is watching. this is such a phenomenon to me. if you are not watching the olympics i wanna know about it cause this needs to be documented - you are the ONLY ONE ON THE PLANET. I have watched everything from sand volleyball (currently watching) to power lifting, to badminton, to diving, to gymnastics, to swimming, to track, to bmx biking, to race walking! it runs the gamut. and i love it all! it blows my mind to see these people who have dedicated their entire lives to become SO GOOD. its pretty amazing if you think about it that way. all their lives waiting for this flash of a moment in time. saweet!

i'll be taking a trek through texas this week. i have an interview in austin on monday for my internship. that should be fun. and then i hope to make a few stops in college station, caldwell, and cypress along the way. and any other towns that start with a "c", really. i am also desperate to get tips about traveling in paris and london. any must sees that i should know about? your deadline is 9/11 - i leave 9/12. get to crackin you veteran globe trotters!

also you should know that my latest musical obsession is brooke fraser. check her out cause she is pretty talented. and i should give the credit to leslie weed for opening my eyes to this album. kudos to you. hope you are all enjoying the olympics, or enjoying whatever! catch ya later!

i realized it has been a month...woops.

sorry, i forget that i have this thing sometimes!

my latest favorite thing has been learning how to surf. some days are more successful than others. i had a nasty run in with the fin the other day...definitely picture worthy!
MyPicture
you get a healthy respect for the waves when they toss you around so effortlessly. i'll tell you one thing though - there's not much that can beat sitting on a surfboard out in the water waiting on the waves. its so quiet and peaceful! i love it already.

another favorite thing has been new music i have been sinking my teeth into. yes, it's that good. john mayer just put out a 2 cd + dvd special. LOVED it. he is at his finest in the trio set. that dvd makes me want to put down the guitar and quit forever - he's so stinkin' good! also, if you haven't heard about jon foreman's (frontman for switchfoot) 4 eps...well here's your word of mouth recommendation: GO GET THE FALL, WINTER, SPRING, AND SUMMER EPs NOW! a handful of his work is scripture set to music, which is just incredibly well done. i cannot recommend these eps enough! go get em! now! also, itunes hooked me up with a free single from blind pilot. bought their album as a result and have been running through that nonstop. it's a pretty chill mix between the shins, the decemberists, and bright eyes. got the 'into the wild' soundtrack by mr. eddie vedder and am intrigued to give it another listen. sounded pretty good the first time around. i also got free copies of the latest full length albums from derek webb, matthew perryman jones, and katie herzig. pretty sweet deal, will have to get back to you with reviews of those.

in other news i am preparing to leave galveston. i have several weeks left here, but i am starting the goodbye process early for some reason. i have so much history here! i love this town! i know that sounds crazy - how could i love galveston? i will save the long list of reasons for another post, but suffice it to say...God will continue to bring His Kingdom here no matter if i'm a part of it or not. my prayer is that i will still be an avenue for Him to make His name known in this broken town whether i'm in austin, or houston, or halfway across the world. and that is absolutely possible! what a strange and wonderful thing. i'm just glad He allowed me to take part in what He is doing down here in the first place! can't wait to see what He drags me into in austin!

p.s. dottie and leslie are home from their world travels! yahoooooooo!

loopty loop

so i played some music today at a wedding of a dear friend. "the music" consisted of me and my guitar and i didn't quite see it fit for the bride to walk down the aisle to some boring slow instrumental so i got creative with my loop sampler and gave the entrance a little crescendo. this was my first time looping in front of a crowd and i received good feedback so i was happy. looping is so fun - intricate, but fun all the same. for those of you wondering "what the heck is looping, and why should i care?"...basically it is recording music on the fly, adding layers upon layers of lead guitar, background vocals, bass lines etc. so that it sounds like a full band playing. check out mr. howie day for a pretty impressive example:

so that was how i challenged myself today. i didn't ruin the wedding, and that is a victory worth celebrating in my book! tomorrow is father's day so don't forget to do something super cool for your dear ole dad. i bought my dad an aggie baseball hat to replace the last one i bought him - he lost it on a plane. and i am making him a cd of my music, which i am confident he will appreciate the most - he's such a sap he's gonna love it! in other news i'm going to visit julie in germany in september! if you have any ideas of what i should do the two weeks i am in europe send suggestions my way! ok i'm out - it is LATE! much love.
